I get this too, AMD64 distro.

System updated as of 7th Sept 07.  Ive had this problem since I started
using Gutsy (tribe4+)

The Elapsed timer keeps going up but no verify occurs.

One funny, the k3bsetup2 app that handles 'sudo-ising' for cd writing
was not installed by installing k3b, apparently this isnt a bug (darned
if I know how to install it).  Perhaps this is related.
