Offtopic, but I tried both the 8.42 from here:

driver/+bug/156325/comments/11 and via the ATi package.

Both times fglrxinfo reported that OpenGL was being provided by Mesa (as
in, software).  Any clues as to how best to trial the 8.42.x version?
