2. No and no. I do get a little notification thing next to the battery icon
in the system tray. It says "Brightness: 0%".
3. Yes. Up is 212 and Down is 101.

Sorry for the late response. Everybody was reporting the dcop command to
work, but it didn't in mine. Maybe this will help.
