Well, apparently this has to do with if dpms is disabled under
monitor&display settings in kde, if this is disabled then the
screensavers dont' work right, even if DPMS is turned on/off by another
program later.

Still working on weather or not this is related to my kdesktop crash
that seems to have something to do with dpms as well.
