Ah, addition, sorry — I am using the detailed mode: screen name, status,
protocol icons on three lines, therefore the icon is bigger.  It had
suddenly (at some point a month or two back) become smaller and more
compact; now it’s back to original and I haven’t tinkered with it.

If you use the same display mode that the screenshot uses, you could try
to increase the font size in the Appearance module; it should have a
direct effect on the size of the contact list items.
