You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I use UbuntuCE 7.04. This was the first time I have been using gnome, I
used KDE before so I wanted to install K3b and kate in the gnome
environment. But when I run them, the startup process takes quite some
time, and when the programs appear, they have no icons in the
menus/toolbars.

Then I tried to install kubuntu-desktop to see if that would solve the
problem, but when I start a KDE session now, the entire KDE desktop
misses its icons. See the screenshot at
http://pixsup.com/uploads/8be0a9594a.jpg . Now when I swithed to gnome
again, the problem persists (screenshot at
http://pixsup.com/uploads/a478a6a67b.jpg ). I tried adding another
account, but it had the same problem. I did install UbuntuCE 7.04 on
three seperate systems, and they all have the same problem.

I've started to threads at the ubuntu forums but with now solution (see
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=482939 and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2909526 ).

** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
