I am having the same problem with  OO 2.2.0 on Kubuntu Feisty,

I tested the following konqueror-url with .doc and .xls files:
1. sftp://user@server/path/to/file
2. smb://user@server/path/to/file
3. fish://user@server:22/path/to/file

TEST RESULTS

Right-click and open with -> Open Office
1. doesn't work
2. doesn't work
3. doesn't work

Right-click and open with -> Kword/Kspread
1. works
2. works
3. works

Test output (by enabling open terminal window)

Open Office (I get the same result running "oowriter -o url" from konsole, I get no output if url is a simple unix path)
