I have many Konversation crashes, too.
I downloaded the debugging symbols and will attach the backtrace.

it *seems* this is happening only if I switch desktops while
Konversation is logging in/connecting.

If I keep Konversation in the foregroud, it starts up okay.

So try this: Start Konversation, click 'connect' and then switch to
another desktop.
