I have the same problem and I tried to follow the suggestions here
without success :(

I did however find another solution that works though:
http://lineak.sourceforge.net/

(It's among the packages in the normal Ubuntu feeds b.t.w.)

- Just install the lineakd package
- run the lineakd in a console and follow the instructions given
- Then edit the config-file for lineakd as follows and re-run:

Next = amarok -f
Play|Pause = amarok -t
Previous = amarok -r

It might not be the tidiest solution but at least it will get the job
done until this is solved properly.
