Sorry, the black border is on the right. 

The resolution should be 1024x768 preferably 24 or 32bpp.

According to the xorg.log, there is DDC data to establish screen
resolution and DPI (I am experiencing DPI issues on Gutsy on other
machines):

(II) RADEON(0): h_active: 1024  h_sync: 1048  h_sync_end 1184 h_blank_end 1344 h_border: 0
