I can confirm this bug!
My system is running kubuntu 6.10.

I think I've discovered a part of the cause of the problem:
There are some entries missing under "Control Center->Desktop->Behavior->Device Icons".
I can't see "Unmounted Removable Medium", "Unmounted CD-ROM", "Unmounted DVD" and some more "Unmounted ..." which should be there.
