[Bug 88258] Kubuntu often fails to shut down properly

Public bug reported:

Kubuntu  often fails to shut down on this machine. There's no error
messages given and the machine usually hangs with messily colored or
completely dark screen. Everything is updated to the latest and the
problem remains after upgrading to 2.6.20-8-generic.
