In my case I do have to touch the mouse.  In either case, the screen
only goes black when moving the clock more than about 2 hours forward
and hitting the apply button.  It doesn't happen moving the clock
backward or a small amount forward, and doesn't happen with the OK
button.

I am not running kpowersave, only guidance powermanager, which is not
set to do anything when the system is idle.  The screensaver is set to
start after 10 minutes.
