[Bug 83727] If I stop KDM it hangs on usplash (Kubuntu Edgy)

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: kdm

If I log out of KDE, press CTRL+ALT+F1 and type "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm
stop" the splash screen shows up (and remains idle).

I have to press ALT+F1 to get back to the console.

This doesn't happen on Ubuntu and GDM. Only Kubuntu is affected by this
bug.

I'm using Kubuntu Edgy with KDE 3.5.5 (I had the same problem on Dapper)
