I'm seeing the exact same problem. I downloaded the source tarball from amarok.kde.org and installed that. It works perfectly. Whatever changes are made for ubuntu packaging caused this problem. -- amarok 1.4.5 will not build collection https://launchpad.net/bugs/83454
