So do you mean just the program is freezing, or is all of X freezing?
In other words, is it Amarok that is freezing, or is it everything on
your desktop?

This happens when you drag any file into the playlist, no matter where
it's from?  I assume you're dragging from Nautilus (the Gnome file
manager, if you're using a stock Ubuntu install).

I have not seen this problem, and can drag and drop both files and
folders into my Amarok just fine (usually).  Sorry. =/  One thing you
could try, since I don't know a whole lot, is simply making sure it's
not something messed up with your install.  If you have enough RAM for
it, put in the Live CD and while inside that, install Amarok, and try it
again.  If the problem doesn't occur, something is messed up with your
install.  I'm assuming it is, because I have no problems with that on
any of my machines.
