I have the similar issue. I have pinpointed it to the burn verification
phase.

As long as the write verification is not selected, the burn goes
flawlessly. But after I enabled verification, both CD and DVD writing
hangs during verification attempt. The disk is written correctly, it is
k3b process that eats all the CPU.

Some time ago all worked OK on Gutsy, this is an issue of a last week or
two.

Important! This happens on k3b 1.0.4 from gutsy-backports. Regular 1.0.3
from main repository works flawlessly.
