[Bug 133554] Rebuilding collection eats up too much memory

When I rebuild my collection, there's a process exploring my collection
which takes around 250MB of RAM. I only have 512 MB so this really
hinders the system's performance. In fact I left the room and when I
came back, after using the touchpad, my screen didn't "turn on" until 5
or 10 minutes later.

I have around 20,000 tracks on an external hard drive (NTFS).
