The lines appear also in the final release.
I run other KDE programs like amarok, they don't give me the lines. I noticed another thing: this only happens for me if i enable the POV-Ray highlighting mode, when i open the same files without highlight or with other highlighting than POV-Ray all works just fine.

My system also hangs for a few seconds now and then when scrolling in
Kate with the same hightlighting enabled, i don't know if this is
connected with eachother. But this also doesn't occur when using a other
hightlighting method.

I hope this narrows it down a bit :]
