The solution for feisty is to download the latest source package normalize-0.7.7 and change this lines in
normalize-0.7.7/src/normalize.c

   case 'V':
      printf("normalize %s\n", version);
      printf(_("\


to

   case 'V':
      printf("%s %s\n", progname, version);
      printf(_("\

after that 
checkinstall make install
ln -s /usr/bin/normalize /usr/bin/normalize-audio

and everything will work.
The problem is due to the fact that k3b calls  normalize-audio -V
but the program answers:
normalize 0.7.7

rather than

normalize-audio 0.7.7
