Public bug reported:

I own an AOC model FT720 monitor 17" conected to a GeForce 7800GS (AGP)
card with a VGA cable (DB-15). I have tried with both Knot3 and Beta
Kubuntu 6.10 versions and the problem is the same:

I put the live CD, and in the initial screen (where you select the kind
of installation, the language and the screen resolution) I have tried
all posible combinations: "Start or Install Kubuntu" and "Start Kubuntu
in safe graphics mode", with all the VGA combinations: VGA, 640x480,
800x600 and 1024x768 (both in x16 and x32 colors), and with all of them
I get the same message: "Out of range". My monitor tell that the freq.
that Kubuntu tries to use is 80KHz in horizontal and 180 in vertical (my
monitor max refresh rate at 1024x768 is 85Hz (exactly under Windows the
screen shows: 68.6KHz in horizontal and 84.9Hz in vertical). I suspect
that Kubuntu is trying to set the max refresh rate that he detects from
the monitor (or from the graphic card), but it is doing it wrong.

I think it should set 60Hz automatically during the live CD and always
before installing the VGA card specific drivers or setting manually any
other refresh rate, to avoid this kind of problems, because I think this
is a refresh rate universally adopted, and compatible with all king of
monitors (from CRT to TFT). Please, have a look at this problem. I want
to use Kubuntu!! Thanks.

** Affects: kubuntu-meta (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: Unconfirmed
