Hi:
I've had the Bug List sent to my address for about a week now, Thousands
of little bugs, that I'd have to be an Entomologist to do anything with.
My Dapper was Downloaded by a Friend that had High Speed, I only have
about 33K, most of the time. He cut it perhaps at 48 Times, or perhaps 8
times, or even faster! I'm not sure. It had all kinds of Bugs, and
Updates don't fix the bugs! It may be due to drop outs on the ISO Image,
of the Install CD!
The Hardware Detection does not work real great! (When I took out the
Nvidia AGP card I tried to install, it did not then detect the SIS on
board Video, and try to use the right drivers. It keeps on coming up
with Nvidia things to upgrade, even though, there is no Nvidia card in
My Machine now! The Printers that worked great in 5.10 Ubuntu, don't
work at all in 6.06 and 6.06.1 The Sound stopped working on an upgrade,
I sort of fixed the problem, but I'm still getting error messages now
and then. About 8 Games that worked real nice, that made use of Open GL,
now don't work because of an upgrade. The Nvidia 6200 I bought about a
year ago, just will not install at all, due to a big pile of Errors that
come up every time I try to get it working! I asked the bug list about
some of these errors, and how I might fix them, as I've been playing
with Linux just for a short time, but other concerns seemed more
pressing, to the Bug list. So these things seem to be - "Unresolved
Dependencies." I see that a whole bunch! I might try to get a Dapper
Install CD before leaving Ubuntu for a while. I have some time now and I
need that sound and at least one printer working, and Ubuntu 6.06.1 does
not have this going for it, at my house. There does not seem to be any
way I can get this going. I'm not rich and I'm not having 50 to 60
computers going, and all kinds of cash to pay people to get the bugs
fixed! I've got one Home-made computer, and minimal storage. So I'll
have to migrate to some other Distro for a time, or until the Bug list
sees perhaps only 2 or 3 bugs a day, instead of 8 or 9 Hundred a day.
Alfred!
I lost quite a bit of stuff, work - because the Back Up Programs don't
work that well in Ubuntu, when the EXT-3 Error hit the first
time,(Requiring a manual Fix and then in 5.10 the second time). Backup
PC took a long time to do anything, and it could not be saved to disk.
Keep took a long time to do anything, and it had unresolved size
problems that could not be saved to Disk. Sbackup seems to work much
better, at least much faster, and it has the Includes and Excludes,
similar to doing a backup in Terminal mode! I have not tested the
Restore function yet! K3B is a very Nice Program, and it would be real
great if it had, a Back-up function built into it, so a Back up could
get onto a DVD-RW every couple of days, without having to manually sit
there and transfer the files from one program to the next, to get it on
the DVD!
