Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kdm
Did a fresh text install of Kubuntu 6.10 from the dvd; as part of the
process there was a keyboard layout detection wizard. This wizard
(correctly) identified the keyboard layout to be used as us-intl, and
the keyboard actually used this layout during the install, which also
added the following to the keyboard section of xorg.conf:
Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
Option "XkbLayout" "us"
Option "XkbVariant" "intl"
Option "XkbOptions" "lv3:ralt_switch"
Now booting up, I cannot login in kdm; it misbehaves in the same way as kdesu does in Bug #54564: login will fail when the password contains certain characters like ' or ". Upon pressing such a key, two stars (**) appear at once in the password dialog, and the password always fails.
Interestingly, other keys like ^~` produce only a single star immediately, suggesting that these are directly used (without waiting for another character to form âñè etc.) which would also be wrong.
The password itself is set correctly, and console login does work.
** Affects: kdebase (Ubuntu)
Importance: Undecided
Status: Unconfirmed
