Using Kubuntu Edgy now. I'm finding that if I log out of KDE and shutdown from KDM, the splash works. However, the splash doesn't show up (instead, the screen is blank) if I choose to shutdown from KDE without logging out first. -- No usplash on shutdown with kdm https://launchpad.net/bugs/34821
