These problems happen for me too under Breezy with both Amarok 1.3 and 1.4.  SUSE and Mandrake do not have problems with this.
I always notice that the program leaves the following process open just before I have to kill it:

kio_file [kdeinit] file /tmp/ksocket-userid/klauncher229aic.slave-socket
/tmp/ksocket-userid/amarokWVJzNa.slave-socket

Amarok will quit if it's the first thing that I do when I notice the
music stop, but it always leaves this process out there.
