[Bug 36028] After "final" switch to graphics, screen goes blank

Description:
Kubuntu Flight 5 Live CD (disk checked), computer is laptop with i855GE
chipset and Pentium-M 1.1, 12,1" LCD WXGA 1280x800.

After several messages about / not found in /etc/fstab, loading some daemons etc., it switches to graphics, but screen goes blank.
However it didn't freeze completely - if I push the power button, it starts shutting down and then ejects the CD.
