[Bug 35103] After using kubuntu, NTDetect fails and no longer able to boot from hard drive

Description:
After I used the Kubuntu Live CD on my laptop, the next time I attempted
to boot the computer without the Live CD (booting as I always do, from
the main hard drive that has WinXP installed), the boot process failed
immediately stating "NTDETECT failed".  On subsequent boots, the same
statement displays and I am unable to boot my computer without the Live
CD now.

This seems a very big deal, considering a Live CD should definitely not
mess with the MBR or affect subsequent booting of the computer after it
is no longer in use.
