 	Thanks.  That worked, but I have no idea why.  The card is 
perfectly capable of 24 bit color depth in Windows.  But it wasn't even 
trying in X, so I'm not losing anything.

 	I think it might be a refresh issue, simply because, like you I 
don't have that at all in my xorg.conf and it's the only other thing 
mentioned in the thread.

 	Shouldn't that flash the screen or something?  It did nothing. 
Maybe it's a Gnome vs. XFCE issue.  I just restarted.

 	That's just it, Windows claims I have 6 MB of RAM, so it's not 
like your box where you didn't have the RAM for 24 bit color.
