Public bug reported:
How to reproduce the bug :
Install Kubuntu dapper on a system.
Try to play a mp3 file on amaroK :
- No sound is output
- No message or error is reported
- Instead, amaroK says the track is finished after a second or two.
Cause of the problem : libxine-extracodecs isn't installed by default on
Dapper ( which seems normal since the package is in the multiverse
repository )
>>> But amaroK fails to tell the user it can't play the file because it
misses the required codec(s). <<<
So the user ends up confused about the reason why his file doesn't play, and has to do some research to understand he has to :
- add the multiverse repository in Adept
- install the libxine-extracodecs package
All of this is not strightforward for someone without experience
amaroK should report when it can't play a file due to a codec problem.
cheers,
David.
