Upon more investigation, it seems that 90°C is NOT my CPU's critical
temperature, I don't know the exact CPU model I have, but all Intel's
datasheets for P4s have lower values (67-73°C).

I stopped powernowd and set the polling frequency to 1s, the temperature
hasn't changed so far. Let's see.
