[Bug 48500] In Kubuntu Dapper KDE 3.5.3 - device icons disappearing

Public bug reported:

After upgrade to KDE 3.5.3 on Kubuntu Dapper, device icons are invisible
after logging in. They show up only after an event related to media
insertion/removal, like inserting a CD or USB key.
