Comment:
Interesting, a look into the installed .desktop file tells me that:
andreas at obsidian:~$ grep -E ^"(NotShown|Categ)" /usr/share/applications/gnome-cups-icon.desktop
andreas at obsidian:~$
andreas at obsidian:~$ dpkg -S /usr/share/applications/gnome-cups-icon.desktop
gnome-cups-manager: /usr/share/applications/gnome-cups-icon.desktop

Right, the KDE printing applet appears automatically when printing something through KDE's printing facility. That was the reason to hide kjobviewer (kubuntu_36_hide_kjobviewer) in KDE's menu. Thus, there is no longer a way to start it manually via menu.

But why should one use GNOME's printing notification applet under KDE at
all? That one isn't started automatically when printing something with
Firefox or Openoffice either. Wouldn't it be better to show the GNOME
applet menu entry only under GNOME and unhide the KDE print jobviewer
again so that people who print with non-KDE apps under KDE have a way to
start the KDE print job viewer manually?

At least I would prefer it that users under KDE who print something with
non-KDE apps have a way to start the KDE jobviewer instead of Gnome's.
It really make no sense to me that they can start the GNOME printing
applet under KDE but not the KDE one.
