Well it's been a while since I filed the report.........
Oliver Grawert <ogra at ubuntu.com> was able to recreate it and even
mentioned possibly moving the package from main to Universe, because of
it. It's an upstream problem.
In addition (as previously stated) please see
https://bugzilla.ubuntu.com//show_bug.cgi?id=18210. I initially filed
the same report on Bugzilla and Lanuchpad because it wasn't clear (at
the time) where it was supposed to be filed....
Since that time I've noted the crash rarely occurs, but GNOME still gets
messed up because it looks as if GTK widgets are being rendered with the
current KDE theme. This causes strange behavior at times.
Usually I remember to delete the .gtk_qt_engine_rc and .gtkrc-2.0 files
before starting GNOME, thus alleviating the problem.
Of course you do then have to repeat the steps later in KDE to get the
KDE look and feel back in GTK apps.
