Yes the bug is reproducable on edgy. The CD-ROM device chooser and audio device chooser are really file choosers not device choosers. It's actually impossible to use them in accordance with description, they don't allow You to choose devices (A message "You can only select local files" is not really helpful nor informative).
Another thing which probably qualifies for a separate bug entry is a
situation when cdrom device is somehow blocked by another program and
audio backend is arts (it happens to me when I run vmware with Windows
on it). The error message says to check access rights to /dev/hdb and
those rights are perfectly ok (660 root:cdrom), the problem lies
somewhere else.
