Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: kdebase-kio-plugins
I'm using kde 3.5.4 from the repositories listed at http://kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-354.php Since upgrading to 3.5.4, the media:/ ioslave lost it's capability to mount pluggable drives. It returns "an unknown error occured". I tracked the issue down to missing HAL scripts:
hal-system-storage-cleanup-mountpoint hal-system-storage-eject hal-system-storage-unmount hal-system-storage-cleanup-mountpoints
hal-system-storage-mount
As soon as I copy these scripts (e.g. from the hal_0.5.7.1-0ubuntu4
package) to /usr/share/hal/scripts/ mounting works. However unmounting
still fails silently (the io slave still shows the green triangle and
the drive is still mounted according to "mount"). The issue is
definitely with the hal version dapper provides, since KDE 3.5.4 changed
the handling of pluggable drives. Could someone please fix the hal
package in dapper and release an update? It makes KDE 3.5.4 quite
unusable for unexperienced users.
