Public bug reported:

Affects: kubuntu-grub-splashimages (Ubuntu)
       Severity: Normal
       Priority: (none set)
         Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
When the splash image is installed, the following line is added to the
menu.lst file:

splashimage=(hdX,Y)/boot/grub/splashimages/KUBUNTU_splashscreen_blue_neon_logo_03.xpm.gz

but that only works if /boot folder is in the root partition. When you
have a separate /boot partition it should add a line like:

splashimage=(hdZ,K)/grub/splashimages/KUBUNTU_splashscreen_blue_neon_logo_03.xpm.gz

where (hdZ,K) is the /boot partition.
