I'm a bit at lost there. It doesn't seem to be related to the http protocol handler.

The package kdelibs-data owns many of the file related to association and protocol handlers. You could try to reinstall it:

apt-get install --reinstall kdelibs-data

Another thing to try, but that I wouldn't blame you not to want to try, is to put your current KDE settings out of the way. Change the name of the directory ~/.kde to ~/.kde.backup or something like that. That way, KDE will restart anew and you will be able to see if something is broken in your settings or not. If that doesn't work, another "interesting" directory to look into is ~/.local, which includes some local MIME types and desktop files.

Althought I would like to help you solve your problem, this is begining to look not like a bug but like a support issue. I'll be waiting for news before closing the bug.
