I have the latest Dapper and on the Dell Inspiron 6000 (which is listed on the LaptopTestingTeam as an offically support laptop) i can not burn cds---it says that i do not have write permission with cdrecord.  Also when i plugin a external usb hard disk, it will let me read from it but will not let me write to it.  Googleing i have found some discussion about problems with SATA drives and DMA with the linux kernel--earlier versions.  Since Ubuntu has 2 model Dell Inspirons listed on the official support list, I would hope that this problem can be fixed.  I emailed the two guys who Ubuntu provided those laptops to if they have tried to burn a cd or test the usb port with an external disk but have not heard back.  Not sure what they are doing since ubuntu gave them the laptops to test.  I really hope this problem can be fixed.  If you need any additional info please let me know.
