I must say I dont know anything about this package, but my initial answer must be YES. 
If people experience that their computer wont even display the right screen resolution they will get a bad first-impression of linux and that is very hard to change. We dont want that. 
Besides, when I want to introduce dapper to all my friends I dont want to be nervous that it wont boot correctly.
