Summary: Locales & Glibc2.3.5 dependency
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: glibc
AssignedTo: jbailey at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: menerio214 at yahoo.com
QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Severity: critical
Platform: pc=Dell inspiron 1100
I am not very computer savvy as i thought. Tinkering with my filesystem I
installed a Libc6 deb from "ubuntu packages" page and caused a bunch of
problems. I had installed this through konsole. Loading up my Synaptic brought
up a bunch of broken packages which i had to delete. I realize that my
repositories are broken but when i tried to fix the problem by manually
downloading deb files like "Locales", "lsb", "ubuntu-base", and the "language
packages", I recieve an error because of the dependency for locales on a file
"glib-2.3.5". I know this to be a virtual file on "Libc6" (which worked when i
reinstalled it). The problem is essentially that synaptic can't locate the glibc
file (either that or i don't have the file at all). I have tried to force
install the packages on konsole--which actually worked, but Synaptic still
recognizes them as broken, except for libc6. Please help me with this problem as
I am a newbie with the linux experience. For instance, are there any backport
repositories i can install these files from, and if there are, how do I add them
to synaptic?
