can print but is not detected as scanner
Product: Ubuntu

OS/Version: Linux

Severity: normal

In 'Breezy':
A HP Officejet G95 attached via Network on JetDirect 172.x can print but is not
detected as scanner.
Phenomena:
- Officejet can successfully be used as a !printer! via CUPS/Socket (IP:x.y.z.w:9100)
- The Scanner Unit of the same Officejet device however is not recognized by
xSane/Kooka
As a verification test I have tested the very same Officejet device (Print, Fax and
Scanning) from within M$ Windows 2000/XP (have tested it here with both M$-OS) and
everything works (I use this Officejet as my daily printer).
Also: The Syslog shows the following errors:
- unable to open /var/run/hplip/hpiod.port: No such file or directory:
prnt/hpijs/hplip_api.c 75
- unable to ParDevice::Open hp:/par/ANY?device=/dev/parport0: No such file or
directory: io/hpiod/ppdevice.cpp 827
The 2nd one could be ok because the device is not attached to the parallel port
Optimizing Wish: Under Settings-->Peripherals an own section for scanners with an
easy to use wizard for configuring HP Officejet Devices (Print, Scanning, and if
possible, Faxing)
