If the option "Composite" is enabled in the section "Extensions" kdm can't start.  
Startx don't work too. 
  
Messages are:  
  
Could not init font path element unix/:7100, removing from list!  
  
  
   *** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not  
   *** be the reason for the server aborting.  
  
Fatal server error:  
Caught signal 11.  Server aborting

Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.1.log" for additional information.  
 
 
 
In /var/log/Xorg.1.log i have: 
 
 (EE) GLX is not supported with the Composite extension
