I have run the above command: 
1. Text screen during reconfiguration was garbled. 
2. It didn't ask me about autodetection of monitor, I got first screen - choosing video 
driver ("nv" was chosen by default, so I left it that way), then screen with resolutions - it 
was garbled but I am pretty sure 1024x768 was the highest resolution marked). 
3. After starting kdm back I have resolution 1024x768 at 60Hz. So it is still not OK.
