This chip is rated at 1.8Ghz and I have OCed it to 2.1Ghz. So why does
Kubunutu report it otherwise?

When I turned off AMD Cool'N'Quiet in my BIOS, that seemed to correct the
problem.

Also, I noticed my MOBO is showing an error code on its diagnostic LCD. I
have not been able to decode its meaning though. It is an Epox EP-9NDA3J
board error "A8". I know the MOBO is not the problem because it does not
display this error in WinXP, only Kubuntu.

The error code persists even with Cool'N'Quiet disabled.
