Installed kde 3.5 Beta 2 from official Kubuntu depo. 
 
Doing a selection (mouse left click in empty desktop space) and selecting one or few desktop's icons leads to a 
whole desktop background refresh. Playing around with selection without selecting any icon is fine. 
 
If background image is fixed, set to "none" or set to "slideshow" it reloads :  
-background gets black 
-background gets reloaded with background image (or next random image in case of slide show) 
-icons appear && my mouse selection is lost. 
 
My desktop is made 4 virtual destkop.
