Summary: nis causes kde removeable device icons not to appear
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: nis
        AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: jfd1 at ohm.york.ac.uk
         QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

Ubuntu 5.04
Normally when a CD or USB pen is inserted an icon appears on the (KDE) desktop.
After installing the nis package the following happened:
1) CD and USB pen icons no longer appear when CD or USB stick inserted
2) Icons for unmounted samba shares did appear
Checking the "Configure desktop/behaviour/Device Icons" tab the samba icons can
be removed by unchecking "Unmounted Samba...share"
Nothing seems to restore the CD/USB pen icons.
If the NIS subsystem is shut-down (/etc/init.d/nis stop) the USB/CD icons work,
after re-starting KDM, at next login.
NIS seems to work as expected when active.
If NIS is started after KDM is running and established the icons seem to work
(simply putting nis after KDM in rc2.d does not).
Should this be posted as a KDE bug ?
