As the bug was back after a reboot with the very same system, I investigated in this direction by reducing my uptime. 
I rebooted several times, before and after upgrades. My conclusion is that the bug usually disappears after upgrades 
--with no correlation with the packages updated--, and that the bug reappears after a reboot. 
 
My last experience this evening was: bug present, apt-get upgrade, bug not present, reboot, bug present, reboot, bug 
present (kdesu window wasn't even shown), reboot, bug present, apt-get dist-upgrade (remaining packages to upgrade: 
openoffice.org2-base, java-common, libhsqldb-java, libservlet2.3-java), bug not present.
