           Summary: mount -t cifs fails with error -22
           Product: Ubuntu
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: i386
        OS/Version: other
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: UNKNOWN
        AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
        ReportedBy: mjs101 at comcast.net
         QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com

All mounts of smbfs and cifs shares fail. Smbclient and KDE's smb://host/share
work. I am also unable to mount samba shares from local host, although I can
access them from another Windows PC. The share below was a cut and paste from a
working Fedora fstab on a third pc.

fstab:
//c700/data             /data                   cifs
credentials=/etc/c700.creds,uid=mjs,gid=mjs 0 0

mjs at a1400:/etc/samba$ sudo mount /data
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on //a1400/mjs,
       missing codepage or other error
       In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
       dmesg | tail  or so

Tail /var/log/kern.log

Nov 26 13:04:28 localhost kernel: [4297780.502000] CIFS VFS: cifs_mount failed
w/return code = -22

mjs$ uname -a
Linux a1400 2.6.12-9-386 #1 Mon Oct 10 13:14:36 BST 2005 i686 GNU/Linux

mjs at a1400:/var/log$ dpkg -S cifs.ko
linux-image-2.6.12-9-386: /lib/modules/2.6.12-9-386/kernel/fs/cifs/cifs.ko

If I use smbfs instead, I get:
 smbfs: mount_data version 1684370019 is not supported
