Ubuntu | knetworkconf
Summary: Network profiles severly broken
Product: Ubuntu
Version: unspecified
Platform: i386
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: knetworkconf
AssignedTo: debzilla at ubuntu.com
ReportedBy: redm at gmx.de
QAContact: kubuntu-bugs at lists.ubuntu.com
Today was my first contact with kubuntu and thinking about it, it actually
installed pretty well on my laptop. And I was suprised to find support for
networking profiles in the network settings! However, they are so unbeleivably
broken that I really wonder how they made it into a stable distribution?! In the
current state they should be rather disabled.
I played around a litte but couldn't really find out what's going on. Only that it
seems pretty random what is saved, when, or to which profile. Things I noticed:
There is no feedback what is actually saved and when.
The tooltip for saved profils shows nothing (perhaps it's not properly updated?).
Does a new profile contain the current settings?
Do I actually have to save it or is it automatically saved?
Sometimes one profile disappears and another is duplicated instead.
Sometimes the all profiles suddenly contain the same settings.
Gateway or DNS info often semms to be ignored (This appears also to be the case
when applying the config. At least I couldn't make it to actually add the
default route I configured, once).
Also you can't enter the network module twice, subsequently. It seems to stay
loaded, at least that's what I'm told. I have to resart the wohl System Settings.
