I also get freezes that I suspect are linked to updatedb in some way. My
machine (dual opteron 2GB, MSI Master2-FAR) always freezes overnight. This is
not much of an indicator that updatedb is involved, but because of the problem I
have been experimenting, and it seems that it might be kernel related - i.e.
updatedb is procucing conditions that can't be handled. I think it is also smp
related in my case, since I don't get the problem if I run a non-smp kernel. I
have recently experimented with the 386 smp kernel (2.6.12-9-k7-smp) and managed
to acquire the following oops that suggests that updatedb was running:-

I don't know enough to make sense of this, so I can't say if it's relevent to
the original bug posted. Nor it is clear to me whether it's a kernel issue, an
updatedb issue, or whether it's a hardware issue, such as faulty memory (though
memtest86 doesn't show anything).
